Malaysian experts on economic reforms in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The modern development of Uzbekistan is in the focus of attention of the foreign expert and business community. Of particular interest are economic reforms to liberalize the economy and efforts to attract foreign capital in various sectors of the economy. In an interview with Dunyo, Malaysian experts spoke about their vision of the dynamic processes taking place in our country.

Raja Rasia, Emeritus Professor of Economics, Malaysia, Professor, University of Malaya:

- Today, Uzbekistan is becoming increasingly attractive to foreign investors. It is well known that the economy of the republic is diversifying, all sectors of the industrial sector and services are developing at a dynamic pace.

Of great importance is the further development of new industrial areas, the implementation of high-tech projects, as the country is successfully moving from a raw material to a processing economy. The efforts aimed at developing the tourism sector are commendable.

I am sure that all these factors will undoubtedly become the basis and will serve the further progressive development of Uzbekistan.

Chi Chi Ming, Advisor to the Rector for the Development of International Education, Putra University, Malaysia, Lecturer at the Universities UCSI, Limkokwing, City University Professor, Doctor of Economics:

- I visited the country more than once, and had the opportunity to personally witness the dynamic changes taking place at an incredible pace. In the near future I plan to visit Uzbekistan together with potential Malaysian investors to explore the possibilities of implementing joint investment projects in the field of education.

In order to study the economic potential of the countries of Central Asia, I conducted my research, according to the results of which I can confidently say that the role of Uzbekistan, as a country with a huge rich resource and human potential, in the development of this region is key. In particular, I want to note the importance of the ongoing reforms by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev for the further development of the economy, innovation, science and education in the country. I think that with his efforts the country will reach completely new heights of economic development.

It is well known that without foreign investment, including without attracting technical assistance funds and credit resources from foreign countries and international financial organizations, practically no world country with a market type of economy can develop efficiently.

We can look at the experience of Malaysia, which received low-interest loans from the Asian Development Bank, relevant financial institutions of Japan and China, in order to implement large megaprojects, such as the construction of highways, international airports, the development of regional infrastructure, the main purpose of which is to improve the quality of life of the population, creation of new jobs and further development of the country. I want to note that all countries of Southeast Asia have similar experience in this area. Developed economies like the USA, Japan and others also attract loans for large-scale projects, and this is a global practice.

If the leadership of Uzbekistan manages to attract credit, this indicates that the country intends to develop its economy at a very fast pace and attracting credit and direct investment does not affect the economic development and dependence of the country on a particular state.

For example, I can say that Malaysia has huge debts to the financial institutions of Japan and China, but this does not make our country dependent on these countries. One of the methods for repaying credit debts can be exporting these products to the market and obtaining foreign exchange earnings, which will be used to repay the funds received.

Given the huge economic potential of Uzbekistan and the favorable conditions for doing business created in the country, we will make our efforts to attract Malaysian companies to implement joint promising investment projects in the country, including in the field of education. I can confidently say that a highly qualified young generation will play a significant role in the further prosperity of the state.
