Long-livers in Uzbekistan to get bonuses to pension

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Long-livers in Uzbekistan at the age of 100 or over will receive special bonuses at the size of equal to 100% of minimal salary to their pensions.

President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov approved a state programme “Year of Attention and Care for the Elder Generation” with his resolution from 18 February 2015.

The programme is aimed at improving level and quality of life of the elder people, strengthening their role in family and society, improve social and medical services to them, pension provision and entertainment of elder people.

The ministries and departments from all sectors – social welfare, healthcare, economy and finance, transport, architected and construction, industry, culture and sports, mass media were attracted to implementation of the programme to fully cover all aspects of life of elder people.

The progamme pays special attention to the World War II and labour veterans. They will get several preferences. For example, they will be able to receive 12-day free medical services at sanatoriums, free railway ticket, financial bonuses to the Day of Memory and Honour, gifts (TV-sets, mobile handsets) and preferences in medical services.

On the initiative of the President of Uzbekistan, long-livers in Uzbekistan at the age of 100 or over will receive special bonuses at the size of equal to 100% of minimal salary to their pensions, information service of the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare of Population of Uzbekistan said.

Single elder people will receive attention and special social packages. From the state budget they will be granted an improved and revised set of essential products with the inclusion of sanitary goods, and special kits, including painkillers and other antihypertensive medications. It is also planned to launch call-center to meet requests of this category of elder people on solving their social needs in time.

Over 150,000 elder people will undergo free medical examinations. Doctors will travel to remote areas to render medical services to elder people.

People with disabilities will receive 12,000 units of high quality prosthetic appliances and technical aids for the rehabilitation due to increase of resources allocated from budget twice to this direction.

Within the programme, it is planned to develop a draft law “On social services for elder, people with disabilities and other categories of population”, which will set main principles of rendering social services and requirements to them.

The document will set authorities, responsibilities and duties of the state bodies and other organizations, rendering social services.

According to Ministry of Healthcare of Uzbekistan, there are 225,000 people at the age of over 80, 44,000 – over 90, and 8,700 – over 100.

It is worth to mention that 3,109 of them are World War II participants and 68,994 – labour veterans.
