Key areas of trade and economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and Russia discussed

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 18 March 2021, Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov held a meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation Vladimir Tyurdenev, who is completing his diplomatic mission in Uzbekistan.

During the dialogue, it was emphasized that under the leadership of the Heads of the two states, relations between the countries are consistently strengthening. In this context, they noted the great importance attached by the governments of the two countries to strengthening and expanding trade, economic and investment ties. Broad prospects were outlined for the development of industrial cooperation, attracting Russian investments and advanced technologies in areas such as mechanical engineering, agriculture and healthcare.

An interest was expressed in further cooperation in order to ensure sustainable growth in the volume of mutual trade between the two countries, in particular, the implementation of practical measures aimed at ensuring unhindered cargo transportation through the territories of the two states, as well as promising mechanisms to simplify customs regulation to increase the volume and diversify trade.

The Russian side highly appreciated the visit of the government delegation to the Russian Federation on 14-16 March 2021, which made it possible to “synchronize watches” on many topical issues on the economic agenda, discuss the current state of implementation of previously reached agreements, including at the highest level, and outline specific steps to further strengthen cooperation in all priority areas.

The parties also noted the significant potential for cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian sphere, meaning the exchange of experience in the field of secondary and higher education, the organization of refresher courses for specialists from both countries as the situation related to the COVID-19 pandemic improves.

At the end of the meeting, the Uzbek side expressed gratitude for the significant contribution made by V. Tyurdenev to the development of bilateral partnership between Uzbekistan and Russia, and also expressed congratulations in connection with his awarding the Certificate of Honor of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
