Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - A meeting took place in the form of a videoconference between representatives of ministries and departments of Uzbekistan and the United States.
From the Uzbek side, the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov, representatives of the IWT, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, other ministries and departments took part in the teleconference.
The American side was represented by employees of the Department of Commerce, Office of the Trade Representative, the US Department of State, representatives of the American-Uzbek Chamber of Commerce and its members, including Valmont, Procter & Gamble, CNH Industrial, ExxonMobil, Coca-Cola "," General Motors "and others.
They discussed the issues of mitigating the negative impact on the economy of the coronavirus pandemic and global crisis, the integration of Uzbekistan into the international economy, including the country's accession to the WTO, as well as ensuring economic transparency in the country.
Thus, the Uzbek side informed about measures being taken in the republic to ensure macroeconomic stability, uninterrupted operation of industries and sectors of the economy, stimulating the activities of domestic and foreign companies, as well as effective social support for the population during the response to the coronavirus epidemic. It was noted that the government is taking urgent measures to reduce import tariffs on essential goods in the fight against the spread of coronavirus.
Along with this, it was emphasized that at present, international economic integration is an absolute priority for Uzbekistan, aimed at increasing the volume of foreign trade, as well as long-term and sustainable development of the state.
The attention of American business circles is drawn to regulatory and economic transformations in the country, including through the fight against corruption, ensuring openness and transparency of government.
Representatives of official US business circles praised the measures taken in our country to support and protect sectors of the economy in this situation. They welcomed the establishment of the Anti-Crisis Fund, the provision of tax and credit benefits, the simplification of foreign trade operations, the use of force majeure for businesses in case of failure to fulfill contracts, and other steps.
During the discussion of plans for the implementation of large-scale infrastructure projects in the republic, leading US companies expressed interest in participating in these projects on the principles of public-private partnership.
The Chairman of the American-Uzbek Chamber of Commerce (AUCC), Carolyn Lamm, announced the commitment of AUCC members to further implement ongoing investment projects to support the republic’s industry, as well as to fully assist Uzbekistan and its people in the fight against coronavirus by providing advanced medical equipment, products and drugs.
