Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Director of the National Center for Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan (NCHR) Akmal Saidov took part in an online meeting of the Eurasian Ombudsman Alliance dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II, Dunyo news agency reported with reference to information Press services of the NCHR.

The agenda of the meeting included the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II in the current situation, as well as the protection of human rights in a pandemic.

Speaking at the event, A. Saidov spoke about the contribution of the Uzbek people to the victory over fascism, the preparations in the republic for the celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Victory. In particular, he informed that large-scale work is being carried out to perpetuate the heroism and resilience of our people during the war through the art of cinema, theater, in artistic and journalistic works, as well as the organization of scientific research, bringing to the public, especially youth, the enduring significance of a great feat our fathers and grandfathers.

Veterans of the war of 1941-1945 and the front army are individually attached to the composition of the commanders of the central apparatus of the department, the commanders of military units and institutions, and they are provided with material assistance on a regular basis, the houses are being renovated, the streets where they live are being improved. Work is underway on the construction of the Shon-Sharaf Museum (Glory) and the Galaba Park (Victory) in Tashkent, taking into account international experience.

The Director of the NCHR emphasized that the international legal order established after the Second World War is based on global legal obligations, which are the cornerstone of peace and security. Violations of this legal order, as modern history testifies, give rise to conflicts, a threat to security and human suffering.

“It is no accident that in the year of its 75th anniversary, the United Nations begins a global discussion of the role of comprehensive cooperation in building the future we want,” he said.

During the speech, attention was also paid to the celebration in 2020 of the 45th anniversary of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, the 25th anniversary of the Beijing World Conference on Women, the 10th anniversary of UN-Women.

In that regard, he noted that Uzbekistan planned to take an active part in the celebration of anniversary dates, including taking into account the country's chairmanship in the Commonwealth of Independent States.

The head of the NCHR also reported that a draft National Strategy of the Republic of Uzbekistan on human rights has been prepared, in which special attention is paid to protecting the rights of the older generation.

Touching upon the current situation caused by the pandemic, A. Saidov expressed confidence that during the meeting common approaches will be formulated for a speedy and effective solution to the emerging issues in the field of protecting human rights in a pandemic.

He informed the participants about measures taken in Uzbekistan to curb the epidemic, treat patients, and support the epidemiological situation based on international practice. Over the past month, more than 20 normative legal acts have been adopted, in which, in particular, the limits of human rights restrictions are specifically defined.

It was noted that in order to combat coronavirus in all regions of the republic, specialized medical institutions and quarantine zones were organized, comprehensive stimulation and provision of social protection of medical workers were strengthened, a wide explanatory work was carried out among the population, including using social networks.

To ensure the continuity of the education system, all institutions in this field carry out their activities remotely online in full, the population is uninterruptedly provided with food, medicines and necessary medical products, and other vital goods. A system has been formed for the provision of gratuitous targeted assistance to people with disabilities, low-income and vulnerable segments of the population, specific mechanisms have been formed for comprehensive support to all spheres and sectors of the economy, for which an Anti-Crisis Fund has been created.

Entrepreneurs were given the opportunity to “freeze” interest on bank loans and tax “holidays”. All measures taken are carried out strictly in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Uzbekistan. “We all well understand that not a single state can cope alone with this terrible pandemic. This is also stated in the special Resolution of the UN General Assembly of April 2, 2020, “Global Solidarity in the Fight against Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID 19),” he concluded.
