Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Iraqi entrepreneurs visited Samarkand as part of the implementation of directives issued by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev during an extraordinary session of the Council of People’s Deputies of Samarkand Region.
During the session, officials outlined tasks aimed at boosting the entry of domestic producers into foreign markets, increasing export volumes, and strengthening industrial cooperation with neighboring countries.
It was noted that the total demand for products from Syria, Iraq, and Afghanistan amounts to around US$30 billion, covering categories such as electrical equipment, textiles, food products, automobiles, pharmaceuticals, and construction materials. Emphasis was placed on the importance of actively promoting Uzbek companies in these markets.
The delegation of Iraqi entrepreneurs arrived in Samarkand for a familiarization visit to the Urgut Free Economic Zone. Guests are reviewing the conditions of the zone, including tax and customs incentives, infrastructure capabilities, and the production potential of local enterprises.
Such visits are expected to support the region’s plans for 2026, which include producing goods worth 70 trillion soums and creating 25,000 new jobs.
