Inter-parliamentary relations between the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan and the Parliament of Japan are expanding

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 7-11 October 2019, the first deputy speaker of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sadik Safayev paid a visit to Japan.

During the visit, a number of meetings were held with the leadership of the House of Councilors and the House of Representatives of the Japanese Parliament, as well as a group of MPs who recently visited the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Meetings were also held in the office of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Economic Development, the Japan Institute of International Relations, and the Japan National Press Club. In addition, the delegation visited Nagoya, where meetings were held with the governor of Aichi Prefecture, the mayor of Nagoya, the speaker of the city parliament and the president of Nagoya University.

The Japanese side was informed about the main achievements of Uzbekistan over the past 3 years in the field of socio-economic reforms and socio-political transformations. The issues of intensifying political dialogue, expanding economic and investment cooperation, and interaction in the field of interparliamentary cooperation were discussed at meetings in the ministries and departments of the “Land of the Rising Sun”.

The First Deputy Speaker of the Senate of Uzbekistan with Japanese partners discussed in detail the issues of strengthening and expanding the multifaceted cooperation between Uzbekistan and Japan in various fields.

The main focus of the talks was on the high-quality organization and conduct at the highest level of the visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat. Mirziyoyev to Japan in December this year.

At the meetings with the leaders of the upper and lower chambers of the Parliament of Japan A. Santo and T. Oshima, a substantive discussion of the state and prospects of the Uzbek-Japanese inter-parliamentary cooperation took place. The parties noted a significant intensification of interaction, as evidenced by the visit of two parliamentary missions of Japan to Uzbekistan in September this year.

Japanese parliamentarians praised the current state of cooperation between Uzbekistan and Japan, supported the ongoing systemic reforms under the leadership of President Sh.M. Mirziyoyev in the country, aimed at introducing democratic mechanisms, creating a true market economy, and improving the living standards of the population.

The delegation of Uzbekistan reached an agreement on further expansion of inter-parliamentary cooperation with Japan, including the organization of a round table in the Parliament of Japan, and the holding of the next meeting of the bilateral Inter-Parliamentary Forum next year.

At the talks in the office of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Economic Development, the parties expressed mutual interest in deepening Uzbek-Japanese relations in a wide range of areas.

Japanese partners stressed that Tokyo is carefully preparing for the visit of the President of Uzbekistan, which will undoubtedly become an important event in the history of bilateral cooperation, aims to lay a solid foundation for bringing bilateral relations to a qualitatively new level.

At the meetings at the Japanese Institute of International Relations, the Japanese National Press Club, and also in Nagoya, practical aspects of enhancing interaction were discussed, including organizing joint events in the run-up to the bilateral summit, widely informing the Japanese public about the current look of Uzbekistan and the ongoing republic of reform.

The fruitful negotiations of the Uzbek delegation in Tokyo made it possible to create additional points of interaction between the two countries both in the field of cooperation between the parliaments of the two countries and in other various fields.
