Information material on the struggle of Uzbekistan in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic has been published as an official document of the UN General Assembly

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - The Permanent Mission of Uzbekistan to the UN has worked out the issue of publishing information material “The Republic of Uzbekistan in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19)” as an official document of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly, Dunyo reported.

The document has been translated into all official languages of the UN, distributed among all member states of the Organization, and also posted in the UN Official Document System.

The material published by the UN contains detailed information on the effective measures taken by the leadership of Uzbekistan in combating the coronavirus pandemic, on ongoing practical efforts, including economic measures to mitigate the effects of the crisis on the population and vulnerable sectors of the economy.

The publication includes information on the activities of the Special Republican Commission established by order of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to prepare a program of measures to prevent the import and spread of coronavirus, as well as the Anti-Crisis Fund with a volume of 10 trillion soums (US$1 billion).

According to the UN, from the very beginning of the pandemic, Uzbekistan has been actively working with neighboring states to jointly counteract the threat of the spread of coronavirus in the region and the world as a whole. In this regard, the UN positively assesses the humanitarian assistance provided by our country since the outbreak of COVID-19 to China, Afghanistan, Iran, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Hungary and Russia.

It is noteworthy that the document lists a number of important initiatives of Uzbekistan to respond to the coronavirus pandemic put forward during the extraordinary summit of the Cooperation Council of Turkic Speaking States (Turkic Council) on 10 April 2020. Among them, the initiatives voiced by the President of Uzbekistan on the importance of taking the necessary measures to ensure uninterrupted supply of the population with necessary food, medicines and medicines by solving problems in the field of logistics and transport, practical assistance in the transportation of goods under quarantine and border crossings in a simplified manner, and also strengthening international cooperation and supporting the activities of specialized multilateral organizations.

The publication emphasizes Uzbekistan’s position that no state in the world can cope with the current pandemic alone, as well as the country's willingness to work closely with other UN member countries to counter COVID-19.
