IAEA workshop takes place in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A workshop will be held in Tashkent on 4-6 February 2019 with the participation of specialists from Uzbekistan, representatives from the “Uzatom” Agency and the State Corporation “Rosatom”.

This workshop is expected to discuss security and other important aspects when choosing a site for a nuclear power plant, the press service of the Uzatom” Agency said in a statement.

Also, the purpose of this seminar is to advise specialists from the Uzatom Agency and other relevant organizations on the fundamentals of safety requirements and IAEA guides.

The seminar discusses a wide range of issues, including environmental aspects when choosing a site for NPPs, the IAEA approach in developing infrastructure for a nuclear power plant, the licensing process in accordance with IAEA safety standards, the organization’s approaches to environmental impact assessment, the IAEA’s developing new nuclear power programs.

The paricipants discuss IAEA supporting documents on safety standards related to the selection and assessment of the site for nuclear power plants.

The workshop includes aspects of IAEA support for countries embarking on a nuclear power plant construction project.

On 7 September 2018, the Prime Ministers of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Uzbekistan signed an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation in construction of a nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan based on the Russian project. The project involves the construction of 2 power units with VVER-1200 type reactors.

According to the resolution of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan No. PP-3969, adopted on 13 October 2018, the signed agreement entered into force.

The first NPP power unit in the Republic of Uzbekistan is scheduled for commissioning by the end of 2028.
