IAEA highly appreciates measures taken in Uzbekistan to develop nuclear technologies

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Permanent Representative of Uzbekistan to international organizations in Vienna, Ambassador Abat Fayzullayev met with Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Mariano Grossi, Dunyo reported.

During the meeting, the head of the IAEA praised the active dynamics of the organization's cooperation with Uzbekistan in 2020, despite the pandemic. This is evidenced by the holding of a number of meetings at the official level, the visit of the Deputy Director General of the Agency Massimo Aparo to Tashkent, the holding of national seminars and workshops with the participation of IAEA experts.

It was noted at the meeting that the IAEA highly appreciates the measures taken in Uzbekistan to develop nuclear technologies, to introduce them into various spheres of the national economy.

Rafael Mariano Grossi noted the particular importance of the upcoming international expert mission to assess the nuclear infrastructure of Uzbekistan (INIR mission) and other activities to create a nuclear power program in Uzbekistan, in connection with which he assured that the Agency will support Uzbekistan's efforts to create nuclear infrastructure at all stages its development.

The meeting noted the successful cooperation of Uzbekistan with the Department of Technical Cooperation of the IAEA. They expressed a mutual desire to develop new areas of cooperation related to the introduction of nuclear technologies in such areas as increasing the productivity of agricultural crops, combating various diseases of plants and animals.

The intensification of interaction through the Department of Safeguards was also noted. The opinion was expressed that the COMPASS project, which is starting this year, aimed at strengthening the regulatory body of Uzbekistan (Goskomprombez), will contribute to strengthening cooperation for other Agency programs in Uzbekistan and serve as an example for many countries.

During the meeting, the Ambassador of Uzbekistan conveyed congratulatory messages to Rafael Mariano Grossi on his 60th birthday.
