Grades in School Diplomas Will Not Affect University Admissions in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Grades indicated in school diplomas will not be taken into account when applying to higher education institutions in Uzbekistan. This was announced by legal expert Khushnudbek Khudoyberdiev, referring to a presidential decree issued on 19 July.
According to the document, the Cabinet of Ministers’ resolution dated 19 November 2021 — which had previously introduced a procedure for factoring in school grades during university admissions — has been repealed.
Originally, it was planned that beginning with the 2022/2023 academic year, graduates' diplomas would include average grades from the last six years of the compulsory eleven-year education cycle. The idea was that the calculated average score would be added to the entrance exam results of applicants.
“For example, if an applicant scored 130 points on the entrance exam, an additional 3, 4, or 5 points could have been added depending on the average grade in their diploma,” Khudoyberdiev explained.
Although this regulation had been formally adopted, its implementation was postponed in 2023 for two years. Now, a final decision has been made to abandon the initiative altogether.
