GM Uzbekistan to be renamed, to increase exports

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- GM Uzbekistan is planning to change its name and increase export of products in the near future.

Uzavtosanoat bought General Motors share in the joint venture GM Uzbekistan. In this regard, the company will change its name. A new name will be reported separately.

The company also plans to increase exports in 2019. The volume of exports of cars and spare parts in 2018 amounted to US$25.5 million. In 2019, the company intends to bring this figure to US$118.6 million.

In 2018, production of more than 100 components was localized, which made it possible to reduce annual imports by US$14.6 million. In 2019, the company plans to localize more than 240 items, due to which annual imports will be decreased by US$17 million.

In 2019, the automaker plans to master the production of two cars in the crossover segment. At the same time, GM Uzbekistan has abandoned plans to produce a new version of the Cobalt model.

Azizbek Shukurov, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Uzavtosanoat for technical policy and localization, noted that the company is switching to a new concept of cooperation with General Motors.

According to the new concept, the automaker will update the line of cars on par with the American corporation.
