Georgia Requires All Foreign Nationals to Have Medical Insurance Upon Entry from 1 January 2026

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — From 1 January 2026, a new mandatory requirement for foreign nationals has come into force in Georgia. Under a decision by the Georgian government, all visitors entering the country must have valid medical insurance covering the entire period of their stay, according to Uzbekistan Airways.

Failure to present an insurance policy is subject to a fine of 300 lari, equivalent to approximately 1.3 million soums.

The insurance policy must be issued in English or Georgian and provide coverage for the full duration of the stay. Minimum insurance requirements include coverage of emergency outpatient medical services of at least US$5,000, as well as inpatient treatment, including accidents, injuries, illnesses, evacuation, and repatriation, with coverage of no less than US$30,000.

Additional insurance requirements apply for travel to Georgia’s mountainous regions.

The insurance document must be carried at all times, either in electronic form on a mobile device or as a printed copy. The policy may be checked both upon entry into the country and by law enforcement authorities during the stay.

Uzbekistan Airways advises passengers to prepare all required documents in advance to ensure smooth border crossing.
