Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 5 November 2020, talks were held between the Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic Ruslan Kazakbayev.
The parties discussed the agenda of bilateral cooperation, the implementation of the previously reached agreements, as well as the prospects for expanding the Uzbek-Kyrgyz partnership in the field of trade, investment, industrial cooperation, transport, as well as interaction in the field of education, health and culture.
Significant potential for a multiple increase in trade, economic and investment indicators between the two countries was noted, in connection with which the parties reached an agreement to accelerate the development and approval of the "Road Map" to expand and deepen cooperation between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Kyrgyz Republic in the field of industrial cooperation and its practical implementation.
In this context, an agreement was reached to intensify the work of the Intergovernmental Commission and the activities of the Council of Heads of Administrations (border regions of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan.
They noted the mutual readiness for productive interaction to remove trade barriers in order to bring the volume of annual bilateral trade to US$1 billion in the coming years.
During the dialogue, the prospects for further development of cooperation in the field of transport and logistics were also emphasized, for which it was agreed to create a special working group as part of the relevant ministries and departments of the two countries. The focus of the working group will be the development of specific proposals for further increasing the volume of cargo transportation and increasing the efficiency of using regional transport corridors, as well as working out topical issues in the transport sector, including the creation of joint logistics centers and the implementation of joint projects to modernize the road and rail infrastructure.
During the meeting, aspects of cooperation in the fields of energy, education, healthcare, science, culture and tourism were also touched upon.
As a result of the meeting, priority areas for further interaction were outlined and the continuation of the practice of regular contacts at the level of leaders and experts of the two states for the prompt resolution of issues of multifaceted cooperation between the two countries was agreed.
