Foreign trade turnover of Uzbekistan reach US$3.9bn in January-February

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan’s foreign trade turnover made up US$ 3.9 billion in January-February of 2018, including exports – US$1.5 billion and imports – US$2.4 billion. The foreign trade balance was minus US$939.4 million.

Exports of energy and petroleum products increased 2.7 times compared to the same period last year, due to export of natural gas by 3.8 times, machinery and equipment - by 79.7%, cable and cable products by 4.7 times, transformers and accumulators by 2 times, electric heaters and electrothermal devices by 2.8 times.

The volume of exports of food products increased by 48.2%, due to an increase in exports of wheat by 3.1 times and fruits and vegetables - by 36.9%. In the structure of imports, the main share fell to machinery and equipment - 36.7% and chemical products and products from it - 14.9%.

The share of services in total exports was 32.6%, where 15.6% were transport services, and 14.1% were travel services.

In January-February 2018, the balance of foreign trade was minus US$39.4 million, including with the CIS countries minus US$401.4 million and with other countries minus US$538.0 million.

Among the CIS countries, Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Ukraine, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan account for 40.7% of the foreign trade turnover among the main foreign trade partners of Uzbekistan, among other states- China, Turkey, the Republic of Korea, Afghanistan, Germany, Latvia, the United States, India, which account for 40.9% of the total foreign trade turnover.

The volume of exports of fruit and vegetable products amounted to US$62.3 million, or increased by 36.8% compared to the same period last year. Of the total volume of fruits and vegetables, the share of fruits and berries was 23.4% (increased by 13.5% compared to the same period last year), vegetables - 51.4% (42.0%), grapes - 20.4% (by 37.8%).

The main foreign trade partners are Kazakhstan (out of a total of 36.0%), Afghanistan (14.8%), Russia (9.2%), Turkey (5.8%), China (4.4%), India (3.8%), Kyrgyzstan (3.0%), Iran (2.8%), the United Arab Emirates (2.8%), Vietnam (2.5%), Ukraine (2.0%), Pakistan (1.9% %) and Belarus (1.8%).

According to the results of January-February 2018, the share of exports of fruit and vegetables in the total volume of exports was 4.2%.

The physical volume of exports of fruit and vegetable products amounted to 95,600 tonnes, or increased by 55.9% compared to the same period last year. Of the total volume of fruits and vegetables, the number of fruits and berries was 14,200 tonnes, (increased by 6.5% compared to the same period of the previous year), vegetables 63,600 tonnes (83.4%), grapes 14,200 tonnes (15.4%), peanuts - 3,600 tonnes (3.5 times) and melons and watermelons fresh - 10.4 tonnes (6.8 times).

In January-February 2018, the share of exports of textiles in the total exports was 13.9%. The volume of exports of textile products amounted to US$207.5 million, or increased by 15.2% compared to the same period last year.
