Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - A meeting of the railway leaders of five countries - Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, with the participation of the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the development of the international multimodal route was held in Tashkent on 19-20 December.

This is the first meeting initiated by the Uzbek side together with the corridor participants, at which priority issues were discussed to increase the volume of cargo transportation, as well as the development of multimodal ground transportation through the territory of the countries participating in the international project.

During the meeting, uniform transit tariff rates and conditions for the transportation of goods along the route were established, and the logistics infrastructure was discussed.

The parties also agreed to establish a Coordination Committee composed of the heads of railways of the participating countries, chaired by the Ministry of Transport of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The launch of a pilot transit container train along a multi-modal route is planned during the first quarter of 2020.

Following the meeting, the parties signed the final protocol.
