European Parliament Holds Roundtable with Uzbek Delegation on Reforms and EU Cooperation Prospects

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — As part of a visit to Brussels, a delegation from Uzbekistan participated in a European Parliament roundtable titled “Reforms and Cooperation: Uzbekistan’s New Agenda and the European Union,” providing a key platform for substantive dialogue between Tashkent and Brussels.

The discussion involved Ilhan Kyuchyuk, the European Parliament’s standing rapporteur on Uzbekistan, members of the European Parliament, representatives of EU institutions, think tanks, and the media.

The Uzbek delegation presented the outcomes of comprehensive transformations implemented under the Uzbekistan – 2030 strategy. The focus was on democratic reforms, economic liberalization, strengthening human rights protection mechanisms, and the consistent improvement of the investment climate.

The delegation also highlighted priorities in pursuing an open and pragmatic foreign policy aimed at expanding regional cooperation and developing strategic partnerships with key international partners.

European experts praised the reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan and emphasized the growing importance of Central Asia for the European Union. It was noted that the signing of the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between Uzbekistan and the EU on October 24, 2025, provided a solid institutional foundation for deepening collaboration in trade, investment, transport, critical resources, and human rights dialogue.

During the discussion, particular attention was given to transport and energy connectivity, including advancing the Trans-Caspian transport corridor, as well as expanding cooperation in education, science, digitalization, artificial intelligence, and the green economy.

Participants stressed that these areas could serve as key drivers of sustainable growth and tangible outcomes in Uzbekistan-EU relations.

The roundtable confirmed the mutual interest of both sides in further strengthening political dialogue and expanding practical, results-oriented cooperation between Uzbekistan and the European Union.
