Equal opportunities created to all presidential candidates

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Pre-election agitation is one of important stages of election process. It is necessary to ensure that candidates should have equal opportunities to promote their programmes and views among the voters.

According to the law “On elections of the President of Uzbekistan”, candidates to the post of the President of Uzbekistan independently determine forms, methods and content of pre-election agitation materials in mass media.

At the same time, they will have equal right to use mass media and hold meetings with the voters. The Central Election Commission controls implementation of this legislative norm.

The agitation campaign was started on 14 February 2015 and will last 28 March 2015. The candidates to the post of the President of Uzbekistan can use 900 minutes of air time of TV and radio channels of Uzbekistan National Television and Radio Company – Uzbekiston and Yoshlar channels. They can use 180 minutes of air time of the regional TV and radio channels. At the same time, this time they can broadcast video and radio reels of the candidates.

The candidates can also publish materials at national newspapers Khalq Sozi, Narodnoye Slovo and Pravda Vostoka at the size of 10 pages and regional newspapers at the size of 5 pages.

About 829 outdoor banners with images of the candidates to the post of the President of Uzbekistan were placed in all regions of Uzbekistan. The designs of banners were developed by the parties independently.

Uzbekistan publishing house published 80,000 brochures with biographies of the presidential candidates and their pre-election programme. The parties also published posters, calendars and flyers in equal numbers.
