Engineer Detained in Ferghana for US$10,000 Bribe

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — An engineer at the Ferghana branch of Energosavdo, part of Hududiy Elektr Tarmoqlari JSC, was arrested for soliciting a US$10,000 bribe.

According to law enforcement authorities, the engineer exploited his official position and demanded the payment from a 1962-born citizen in exchange for reducing a penalty for illegal electricity use at a private home and garden from 1.8 billion soums to 210 million soums.

A joint operational investigation conducted by the Ferghana regional State Security Service and the Department for Combating Economic Crimes led to the engineer’s detention while receiving US$9,000 through an intermediary.

A criminal case has been opened, and the engineer is being held in custody. Investigative actions are ongoing.
