Baku Hosts “Birth of Suzani” Uzbek Embroidery Exhibition

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The National Museum of Art in Baku hosted the opening of the “Birth of Suzani” exhibition, according to Dunyо news agency.

The event was organized by the Khunarmand Association in collaboration with embroidery master Madina Kasimbaeva and art historian Binafshe Nodir.

The ceremony was attended by Azerbaijan’s Deputy Minister of Culture Saadat Yusifova, members of parliament Ganira Efendiyeva, Khidjran Guseynova, and Nigar Mammadova, Chair of the International Fund for Turkic Culture and Heritage Aktoty Raimkulova, as well as representatives of the scientific and creative community.

Exhibition visitors can explore the full process of creating a suzani—from preparing and dyeing threads to transferring intricate patterns onto fabric. Special attention is given to the diversity of embroidery schools, including Samarkand, Bukhara, and Shakhrisabz, each reflecting the region’s history, nature, and daily life.

The exhibition will run until 30 April 2026, offering a unique opportunity to engage with Uzbekistan’s rich cultural heritage.
