Assistant to Hokim Detained in Nurafshan for Extorting US$2,000
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In Nurafshan, an assistant to the hokim of one of the citizens’ assemblies was detained for demanding US$2,000 to secure employment for a Tashkent resident at the Tashkent Regional Department of the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change. The suspect had promised to facilitate the job placement using his official connections.
Officers from the Tashkent Regional Office of the State Security Service, together with the Department for Combating Economic Crimes, apprehended the assistant at the moment he received the agreed sum, effectively ending his illegal activities.
It is noted that the detainee had previously faced multiple court cases, but apparently did not learn from his prior punishments.
A criminal case has been opened against the suspect under Part 3 of Article 168 “b” and Articles 28 and 211 Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan. He has been remanded in custody. Investigative actions are ongoing.
