Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Ambassador of Uzbekistan with residence in Washington, DC, Javlon Vakhabov presented his credentials to the Governor-General of Canada, Julie Payette, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan said.
The Governor-General said that Uzbekistan is known "because of its great history and strategic location in a very important part of the world."
In addition, as the Governor-General, a former astronaut in the past, noted, “Uzbek science made a significant contribution to space exploration programs by offering unique scientific developments and organizing the production of space hardware devices and their components based on them.”
As Julie Payette, being an astronaut, she read a lot and heard about Uzbekistan. Familiar with the activities of the great ruler of Samarkand and the famous scientist, author of one of the most complete and accurate star sky catalogs (Gurgan zidzh) - Mirzo Ulugbek, who "opened the doors of the universe, erecting an entire observatory 150 years before Galileo Galilei invented the telescope".
The Governor-General of Canada stated that the current level of relations between our countries is also on the rise. It was emphasized that Canada welcomes the desire of Uzbekistan to become a key member of the most developed world community. “I was very glad to hear that the Canadian company Sky Power entered the market of Uzbekistan with a large investment proposal in the field of renewable energy,” she said. In her opinion, this project is “mutually beneficial and mutually advantageous”.
At the same time, Uzbekistan and Canada "still have work to do." In particular, she noted the need to expand trade between countries, as well as enhance cooperation in the field of education.
Following the ceremony, the newly appointed Ambassador met with the Director General of the Foreign Affairs Bureau for the Subpolar Region, Eastern Europe and Eurasia, Allison LeCler.
The Canadian diplomat expressed willingness to take a complex of political and diplomatic measures to organize the visit of the head of Uzbekistan to Canada in the first half of 2019.
