Agreement between Russia and Uzbekistan on peaceful atomic energy comes into force
The document was signed in December 2017 in Tashkent. Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Nodir Otanjonov and General Director of Rosatom Alexei Likhachev signed the document.
The agreement creates a legal basis for interaction between Russia and Uzbekistan in the field of peaceful atom.
Uzbekistan and the Russian Federation in the document have identified promising directions for development of mutually beneficial cooperation such as creation and improvement of the national infrastructure and training of personnel for the nuclear energy of Uzbekistan, the construction of nuclear power plants and research reactors in the country, and their support throughout the life cycle.
The parties can also cooperate in exploration and development of uranium deposits with the study of the mineral resource base of Uzbekistan, and also conducts reclamation of uranium tailings.
Countries can produce radioactive isotopes and apply them in industry, medicine and agriculture, scientific and basic research.
Uzbekistan and Russia within the framework of the agreement will create joint working groups for implementation of specific projects and scientific research.
