A project to transfer pumping stations and irrigation canals to the private sector to be implemented in Karakalpakstan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A resolution of the President "On urgent measures for the efficient use of water resources and improvement of the reclamation state of land in the Republic of Karakalpakstan" was adopted.

According to the resolution, in 2021-2023 it is planned to implement projects for the construction, reconstruction and repair, as well as restoration of irrigation and reclamation facilities in the Republic of Karakalpakstan with a total cost of 480.38 billion soums at the expense of the budget of the Republic of Uzbekistan, of which:

- 232.85 billion soums were allocated for the construction and reconstruction of irrigation facilities;

- for construction and reconstruction of reclamation facilities – 115.65 billion soums;

- for systemic repair and restoration work of reclamation facilities – 131.87 billion soums.

In addition, in these years in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, it is provided:

- the establishment in 272 pumping stations of online control over the use of electricity by means of digital technologies through the installation of electricity meters and water measuring devices, the total number of which is 818;

- implementation of 31 projects for the transfer of pumping stations and irrigation canals to the private sector based on the principles of public-private partnership.
