A New Grapefruit Variety “O‘zbegim” Registered in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Scientists at the Tashkent State Agrarian University (TSAU) have developed a new grapefruit variety named O‘zbegim, which has been officially entered into the State Register of Breeding Achievements under the Ministry of Justice.
Prior to the development of this variety, grapefruit in Uzbekistan was considered an exclusively exotic fruit and was imported from abroad.
The new O‘zbegim variety is the result of many years of work by domestic breeders and is fully adapted to the country’s climatic conditions, marking a significant achievement in the field of local plant breeding.
The registration of a breeding achievement is a legal process governed by the Law “On Breeding Achievements” and grants the breeder exclusive rights to its use. To receive legal protection, a variety must meet criteria of novelty, distinctness, uniformity, and stability, ensuring its uniqueness and protection at the national level.
