Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Young employees of the Navoi Mining & Metallurgy Combinat (NGMK), together with students from the Navoi State Mining and Technological University, carried out an environmental campaign by planting 50,000 saxaul seedlings on the dried seabed of the Aral Sea in the Muynak District of the Republic of Karakalpakstan.
The initiative, held under the slogan “The Fate of the Aral — the Fate of the Next Generation,” aims to restore the ecological balance in the region.
The project took place on March 4–5 as part of the nationwide “Yashil Makon” program. Seedlings were planted on a section of the former Aral Sea bed located approximately 80 kilometers from the city of Muynak.
On March 5, at the entrance to the Muynak District, young NGMK employees and university students met with local officials, including M. Jumabayev, Deputy Hokim for Youth Policy, Social Development and Spiritual-Educational Work; P. Umrzakov, Head of the District Youth Agency; and K. Yusupov, Director of the Nukus Branch of the State Institute of Art and Culture of Uzbekistan. The officials wished the participants success and emphasized the importance of ecological projects for the region.
“Since 2020, NGMK youth have participated for the fourth time in the environmental campaign under the slogan ‘The Fate of the Aral — the Fate of the Next Generation.’ Today, thanks to joint efforts, thousands of saxaul seedlings have been planted. We are proud to contribute to improving the environmental situation, preserving nature, and enhancing the region,” said Timur Kalandarov, Chair of the NGMK Youth Leaders Council.
The campaign forms part of NGMK’s strategic ESG approach. Through such initiatives, the company develops programs for climate risk management, reduces negative environmental impacts, and supports sustainable development principles.
Active employee participation in environmental projects reflects the company’s social responsibility and helps foster long-term values aimed at preserving natural balance and biodiversity.
