Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The World Trade Organization (WTO) Secretariat has distributed the next issue of the newsletter on issues of accession to the Organization, Dunyo reports.
It reflected information on the relevant steps taken by Uzbekistan.
In particular, it was noted that during the 16 April online negotiations between the Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov and the Deputy General Director of the WTO, Alan Wolf, the Uzbek side reaffirmed the priority of entry and membership in the WTO, and also proposed to renew the process of holding meetings of the Working Group on the entry of the republic into the Organization.
It was emphasized that on 7 May, in order to prepare for the meeting, Uzbekistan submitted additional documents, including an expanded Memorandum on the regime of foreign trade of our republic and 43 legislative acts.
On 15 May, the Chairman of the Working Group, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea D. Peck, disseminated information in which the efforts of our country and its strong commitment to joining the WTO are welcomed. Stressing that there is currently sufficient documentary base for holding a meeting of the Working Group, D. Peck said that she intends to continue consultations with Tashkent and member countries in order to determine the most suitable date for the event, taking into account the restrictions associated with Covid-19.
It was also reported that on 15 May, as part of a meeting at the WTO General Council, the Permanent Mission of Uzbekistan to the UN Office in Geneva informed representatives of member countries and observers of the Organization about measures taken by the republic’s leadership to combat coronavirus, support socially vulnerable segments of the population and ensure the full functioning of enterprises industry, small businesses and private entrepreneurship.
The press release emphasized the importance of holding the 4th meeting of the Working Group on the entry of Uzbekistan into the WTO as soon as possible, which, most likely, will be held in the form of video conferencing in the very near future.
