Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Every year on 11 December world community celebrates the International Mountain Day! (IMD). The theme of this year's IMD is “Women move mountains”.

Women play a key role in mountains' environmental protection and social and economic development. They are often the primary managers of mountain resources, guardians of biodiversity, keepers of traditional knowledge, custodians of local culture, and experts in traditional medicine.

International Mountain Day 2022 is an opportunity to promote gender equality and therefore contribute to improving social justice, livelihoods and resilience. 

Through the project “Sustainable Forest Management in Mountain and Valley Areas of Uzbekistan” FAO incorporates gender equality principles into forest management policies and practices in Uzbekistan.🇺🇿 A major achievement in this area was the development of the first long-term Gender Equality Strategy of the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Forestry for 2021–2025.
