World Bank Presents Pathway to Low-Carbon Development in Uzbekistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 10 December, the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan hosted the final presentation of the report “Long-Term Opportunities and Pathways for Low-Carbon Development”, prepared by the World Bank in collaboration with the ministry.
The event was opened by Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance Umid Abidhadjaev and World Bank Project Coordinator in Uzbekistan Anastasia Alexandrova, who emphasized the strategic importance of low-carbon development for the country.
Senior Environmental Economist Elena Golub and Energy Policy Expert George Vurliotakis of the World Bank presented a detailed sectoral analysis, outlined opportunities for transitioning to a low-carbon model, identified financing sources, set target indicators, and proposed measures required for their implementation.
Managing Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Anvar Nasritdinov briefed participants on the development of an investment plan by economic sector to achieve low-carbon development goals by 2055.
Specialists from the Ministry of Economy and Finance provided information on the draft legal framework “On the Approval of the Strategy for Low-Carbon Development and Achieving Carbon Neutrality in the Republic of Uzbekistan by 2055.”
At the conclusion of the seminar, participants received answers to all questions and agreed on the next steps for implementing low-carbon development measures aimed at ensuring sustainable and environmentally safe growth for the country.
