World Bank Holds Seminar in Tashkent on Reforming Public Procurement System
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A seminar on reforming the public procurement system was held at the World Bank office in Tashkent. The event took place as part of the working visit of Felipe Goy, Head of the World Bank’s Procurement Management Department for Europe and Central Asia.
The seminar brought together representatives from the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Investments, Industry, and Trade, operators of electronic public procurement platforms, and international financial institutions, including the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, and the Islamic Development Bank.
Key issues related to improving Uzbekistan’s public procurement system were discussed. The World Bank presented the results of its assessment of the procurement system, including an overview of ongoing reforms, identification of existing barriers, and recommendations for further sector improvements.
Participants also reviewed studies conducted by the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank on strengthening the capacity of government procurement agencies in Uzbekistan.
Special attention was given to priority measures for implementing electronic government procurement (eGP) systems in specific sectors, where international financial institutions can support authorities, as well as to best practices in expanding “green” public procurement, which emphasizes the purchase of environmentally friendly and energy-efficient goods and services.
Mechanisms for monitoring the implementation of these measures were also discussed to ensure transparency and efficiency in the system.
The seminar served as a platform for open dialogue among government bodies, international partners, and experts, aimed at modernizing and digitalizing Uzbekistan’s public procurement processes.
