Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 8 October 2020, a presentation of a report on the topic: “Women and work in Uzbekistan. Towards Gender Equality and Decent Work for All” was held.

The presentation was attended by Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Chairman of the National Commission on Combating Human Trafficking and Forced Labor T. Narbaeva; Minister of Employment and Labor Relations N. Khusanov; Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Chairman of the Confederation of Employers of Uzbekistan A. Ikramov; UN Resident Coordinator in Uzbekistan H. Fraser, as well as Deputy Chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of Uzbekistan B. Makhmadaliev and representatives of other responsible ministries and departments.

The participants of the event noted that significant measures are being taken in Uzbekistan to improve legislation relating to the interests of families and women. When developing draft Laws, first of all, the provision of women’s rights both in the family and in society is taken into account.

Speaking, A. Ikramov drew attention to the fact that 83,373 women are currently employed in the field of handicrafts, of which 28,185 are women under 30 years of age. This is the result of the gender policy pursued in the country, which leads to positive results.

They also discussed issues of gender equality, job creation, social protection and migration, as well as the transition from the informal economy to the formal one.

Following the presentation, the parties noted that joint efforts of structural ministries and departments will contribute to achieving gender balance in ensuring the labor rights of the country’s population.
