Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 26 January 2021, the National Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights held a webinar for the heads of the structures of the Ministry of Justice, the General Prosecutor’s Office and the Supreme Court of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The event was attended by the First Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Director of the National Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights A. Saidov, Ombudsman A. Yunusova, Head of the National Guard Department I. Turgunov, Professor of the Department of Theory and Practice of Rights Person of the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs A. Matchanov.
A. Saidov made a presentation on the topic "International human rights standards, their role and importance for judicial and law enforcement agencies", which noted the main trends in the implementation of state policy in the field of human rights in Uzbekistan in recent years. He also elaborated on the main provisions of the National Human Rights Strategy of Uzbekistan, approved by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan in 2020.
A. Matchanov’s speech focused on international human rights standards and their application in relation to the rights of detainees, those in custody, as well as persons sent for compulsory treatment. The practical aspects of the implementation of international standards for the activities of law enforcement officers were disclosed in the speech of I. Turgunov.
The duties and responsibilities of employees of judicial and law enforcement agencies for the protection of children’s rights were outlined in the report of A. Yunusova. In addition, the main examples were given of typical appeals of children to the Ombudsman for the Rights of the Child in recent years.
It was noted that this webinar is the final one in the training course and that it will provide an opportunity to increase human rights literacy in the work of courts and law enforcement.
