Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 6 September 2022, a delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan headed by Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Norov met with High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice President of the European Commission Josep Borrell.
Topical issues of Uzbek-European cooperation were discussed with an emphasis on their further activation and filling with practical content.
The significant potential was noted for the further expansion of ties in the political, legal, trade, economic, financial and technical fields, including through the effective use of institutional mechanisms for bilateral and interregional cooperation.
The parties welcomed the successful completion of the negotiation process on the Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement, which was initialed on July 6 this year in Brussels.
The European side expressed support for the efforts of Uzbekistan to ensure peace and stability in Central Asia, to create an atmosphere of friendship and good neighborliness in the region.
An agreement was reached on thorough and high-quality preparation for the upcoming bilateral and multilateral events. The head of European diplomacy confirmed his readiness to personally participate in the EU-Central Asia Ministerial Meeting and the EU-Central Asia Interconnectivity Conference: Global Gateway for Sustainable Development on 17-18 November in Samarkand.
The head of European diplomacy was informed in detail about the essence and content of the changes being made to the Basic Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which envisages the promotion of the basic principle "Man - society - state" and the idea "In the name of the honor and dignity of man." It was noted that the amendments to the Constitution are primarily aimed at building a New Uzbekistan, where guarantees for the protection of human rights and dignity, social protection and economic well-being will be enshrined at the level of the Basic Law.
A thorough exchange of views on issues of the regional and international agenda also took place.
