Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – On 10 August 2022, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov held online negotiations with the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) Armida Alisjabana.

Armida Alisjabana expressed gratitude for the proactive role of Uzbekistan in promoting trade and economic cooperation in the Central Asian region, new interregional transport corridors, strengthening interconnectedness with South Asia and other regions.

It was emphasized that the efforts of the leadership of the republic to integrate Afghanistan into regional economic processes deserve high praise from the international community.

During the conversation, specific areas of cooperation between Uzbekistan and ESCAP, the participation of representatives of the republic in the upcoming international events of the Commission were discussed.

Particular attention was paid to the further promotion and practical implementation of the initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on the establishment of a Regional Center for the Development of Transport and Communication Interconnection under the auspices of the UN in Tashkent.

Alisjabana confirmed her participation in the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Samarkand on September this year, during which it is planned to sign a Memorandum of Cooperation between ESCAP and the SCO.
