Vladimir Norov holds a meeting with the Director General of UNESCO

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – On 20 September 2022, on the sidelines of the 77th session of the UN General Assembly, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Vladimir Norov met with the Director General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Audrey Azoulay.

The current state and prospects for expanding cooperation between Uzbekistan and UNESCO were discussed in detail.

An exchange of views took place on the schedule and organizational aspects of the planned events.

Audrey Azoulay said that UNESCO supports the course of reforms and transformations in Uzbekistan, assuring the readiness of the Organization to provide all possible assistance to the republic in the implementation of international initiatives. She also congratulated the Uzbek side on being elected to the Intergovernmental Committee for the Protection of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, which is one of the authoritative and prestigious governing bodies of UNESCO.

The high importance of the joint launch in 2021 of the International Advisory Committee on the Preservation and Restoration of World Heritage Sites, which was initiated by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, was noted.

Issues of the international and regional agenda were discussed. The readiness of the Organization for active work was expressed as part of the promotion of the UNESCO resolution “Khiva Process: Encouragement of International Cooperation in the Central Asian Region”, adopted in 2021 at the initiative of the Uzbek side.
