Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan marks the Day of Remembrance and Honour on 9 May to pay tribute to people, who contributed to victory over fascism.

Members of the UzLiDeP faction at the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan shared their opinion on the day.

R. Karimov, a member of UzLiDeP faction, said the most bloody and terrible war in human history, which caused pain and grief, also touched Uzbekistan. Almost one fourth of population of Uzbekistan at that time went to war and about 500,000 did not return to their homes. Many women became widows, while children – orphans. Many people were missing and many returned with injuries.

This is price, which the Uzbek people had to pay in this war, he said. He recalled words of the President Islam Karimov said that the Uzbek people fought at the war for life and freedom of their parents, relatives and children, their country, not for clinching any height or for great leader.

He noted that 338 people from Uzbekistan received title of Hero of the Soviet Union for their brevity, while thousands of people were entitled with orders and medals. Uzbek MP noted that people of Uzbekistan also worked hard to contribute to victory and provide shelter to millions of people, who were evacuated from war zone.

Islam Karimov adopted decision to announce 9 May as the Day of Remembrance and Honour to pay tribute to all those who contributed to victory over fascism in the World War II. Time showed that it was correct decision, he said.

She noted that Uzbek people aware of high price, paid to victory over fascism. It is important that people of Uzbekistan, especially youth, frankly congratulated veterans.

Uzbekistan carries out wide-scale work on strengthening health of elder people and creating favourable conditions for them, she said. Uzbek MP underlined that 2015 was announced in Uzbekistan as the Year of attention and care of elder generation and adopted a decree on social support of war and labour veterans of 1941-1945.

On 9 May, Uzbek leader said that it is necessary to continue work to expand work on supporting veterans and provide them high quality services. UzLiDeP with representatives of its Youth Wing will organize meetings with veterans and provide material and moral support to them, improve medical services and domestic conditions.

MPs and activists of UzLiDeP are visiting houses of war and labour veterans in all regions to show attention and congratulate them with holidays, handing over gifts. UzLiDeP will continue work in this direction, she said.

N. Halilova, a member of UzLiDeP faction, said that people will never forget price, paid for victory in the World War II and will always remember those, who contributed to the victory over fascism.

9 May is a special date as nobody should forget that it is important to avoid repeat of such wars. She recalled the words of the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov, when he said that the people of the planet need peace and tranquillity.

Uzbek MP stressed that in various regions of the world controversy and confrontation, bloody conflicts, threats such as international terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking are growing, fascism, nationalism, chauvinism are spreading.

She said that only correct foreign policy is to strengthen relations with foreign states, first of all neighboring states. It is also necessary to strengthen role and importance of the UN Security Council and other international organizations to solve conflicts via political means.
