Uzbekiston Temir Yollari comments on the situation with the tunnel in Samarkand

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Recently, a video was circulated on social networks in which a new tunnel literally floods in the rain. The Uzbekiston Temir Yollari responded to the incident.

On the eve of the New Year’s celebration, a new tunnel was put into operation at the intersection of Bustonsaroy and Rudaki Streets in Samarkand, the construction of which has been underway since September 2019.

On 31 December 2021, the tunnel, which cost the state budget 143 billion soums, was inaugurated. However, three days later, a heated discussion of a video in which the new structure is flooded with rainwater began on social networks.

Uzbekiston Temir Yollari commented on this incident, saying that during the holidays, the main construction and installation work was completed, and the tunnel was opened in order to reduce the number of traffic jams on the roads of the city.

However, construction works on improvement and drainage, irrigation networks are still ongoing.

It is reported that the water on the walls of the tunnel appeared due to blockages in the trays of the drainage and irrigation system.

The Kuprikkurilish points out that the slabs installed on the walls of the tunnel were made by the dry installation method, so water does not negatively affect the strength of the structural elements of the overpass.

“As part of the construction of the transport facility, it is envisaged to install pumps to drain rainwater and install expansion joints by cutting the asphalt pavement at the joining points. In the coming days, all these works will be fully completed, and the troubles that have arisen will be eliminated,” the message says.
