Uzbekistan’s Tax Committee to Establish Specialized Inspection for Digital Product Labeling

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan, by Resolution PP-23 dated January 23, approved the creation of an Interregional Tax Inspection responsible for overseeing compliance with digital labeling rules.

The new structure will report directly to the Chairman of the Tax Committee and will be tasked with systematic monitoring of goods subject to mandatory digital labeling.

The inspection’s main responsibilities will include ensuring adherence to labeling requirements, conducting pilot programs for labeling new product categories, and preparing proposals to improve the system based on international best practices.

As part of its activities, the inspection will maintain records of identified violations, issue warnings to taxpayers, and conduct remote audits.

Staff of the inspection will have the authority to handle cases of labeling violations and impose fines. They will also develop criteria for assessing tax risks in the labeling sector and maintain databases for analysis and monitoring purposes.

The effectiveness of the inspection will be evaluated quarterly, allowing decisions on employee rewards, disciplinary measures, and correction of identified deficiencies. Employees of the inspection will receive a 20% salary bonus.

Last week, the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis adopted in the first reading a draft law simplifying the procedure for conducting remote tax audits.

According to deputies, the adoption of this legislation is expected to enhance the efficiency of the digital labeling system and improve compliance monitoring.
