Uzbekistan’s public debt surpasses US$42 billion
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — As of 1 April 2025, the total volume of Uzbekistan’s public debt reached US$42.4 billion, according to the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
Of this amount, the majority — US$35.5 billion — consists of external debt, while domestic liabilities account for US$6.8 billion. Compared to the same date last year, the public debt has increased by more than US$7 billion.
Among international financial institutions, the World Bank remains the country's largest creditor.
At the end of 2024, Uzbekistan’s total external debt stood at US$64.1 billion, equivalent to 55.7% of the country’s gross domestic product. Of that, US$33.9 billion was public debt, while US$30.2 billion was attributed to the corporate sector.
The structure of public debt also includes interest payments that have been accrued but not yet paid.
