Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 5 March, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed a presentation on the progress of major transportation infrastructure projects, including the modernization of the country’s air transport facilities, the presidential press service reported.
During the meeting, the main parameters of the new Tashkent International Airport project were presented. The president was also briefed on the ongoing design and survey work at the future airport site and the next stages of the project’s implementation.
The first phase includes the construction of a passenger terminal covering 208,400 square meters and two runways, each 4 kilometers long. The project envisions infrastructure capable of handling up to 20 million passengers annually, accommodating up to 30 takeoffs and landings per hour, and providing parking for 169 aircraft.
The head of state instructed officials to ensure thorough technical and economic planning, carry out construction according to modern standards, and guarantee the long-term, reliable operation of the transport infrastructure.
Previously, on 15 October, Mirziyoyev reviewed the airport project in Tashkent region and officially launched construction by laying the foundation stone for the future facility.
Private partners in the public-private partnership include Vision Invest from Saudi Arabia, Sojitz Corporation from Japan, and Incheon International Airport Corporation from South Korea. The consortium shares are as follows: Vision Invest — 45%, Sojitz Corporation — 30%, Incheon International Airport Corporation — 15%, and Uzbekistan Airports — 10%.
Once operational, the airport will handle up to 20 million passengers and 129,000 tons of cargo annually, support up to 30 takeoffs and landings per hour, and simultaneously accommodate 62 aircraft.
Transport accessibility will be ensured through connections to the Tashkent–Samarkand, Tashkent–Andijan, and Tashkent–Bostanlyk toll highways, a high-speed rail station, and shuttle services between Tashkent and New Tashkent.
The new Tashkent International Airport is scheduled to open in 2029.
