Uzbekistan’s Population Exceeds 37.8 Million: Natural Growth Reaches 321,000 in Six Months
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — As of 1 July 2025, the permanent population of the Republic of Uzbekistan reached 37,859,700 people. This represents an increase of 2.0% compared to the same period in 2024.
Between January and June 2025, the number of live births amounted to 405,500, while the number of deaths was 84,100, resulting in a natural population increase of 321,400 people. During the same period, 673 people arrived from abroad, while 5,551 people emigrated to foreign countries. A total of 95,300 marriages and 23,300 divorces were officially registered.
The overall population grew by 725,500 people year-on-year. Of the total population, 19,296,400 people (51.0%) reside in urban areas, while 18,563,300 people (49.0%) live in rural areas. Women make up 18,793,900 of the population (49.6%), and men account for 19,065,800 (50.4%).
As of 1 July 2025, the population density across the country was 84.3 people per square kilometer, up from 82.7 people per square kilometer a year earlier.
During the first half of 2025, 405,500 live births were recorded, with a birth rate of 21.7 per 1,000 people. Compared to the same period in 2024, the number of births decreased by 14,400.
There were 84,100 registered deaths from January to June 2025, with a mortality rate of 4.5 per 1,000 people. This marks an increase of 2,700 deaths compared to the same period in 2024.
Of the total live births during this period, 209,600 were boys (51.7%) and 195,900 were girls (48.3%). In terms of geography, 197,800 births (48.8%) occurred in urban areas, while 207,700 (51.2%) were in rural areas.
The total number of deaths was 84,100, including 46,200 men (54.9%) and 37,900 women (45.1%). Geographically, 45,600 deaths (54.2%) occurred in urban areas and 38,500 (45.8%) in rural areas.
Between January and June 2025, 95,300 marriages were registered, resulting in a marriage rate of 5.1 per 1,000 people. Compared to the same period in 2024, the number of marriages fell by 2,100.
During the same period, 23,300 divorces were recorded, with a divorce rate of 1.2 per 1,000 people — an increase of 800 divorces compared to January–June 2024.
From January to June 2025, a total of 127,759 people arrived in the country. Of these, 127,086 were internal migrants relocating from other regions of Uzbekistan, and 673 were arrivals from abroad.
The total number of people who left the country reached 132,637, including 127,086 who moved to other regions within Uzbekistan, and 5,551 who emigrated to foreign countries.
