Uzbekistan’s NGOs Not to face financial difficulties — Otabek Khosanov
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Uzbekistan, including recipients of foreign grants, will not face financial difficulties, assured Otabek Khosanov, Director of the Public Foundation for the Support of NGOs and Other Civil Society Institutions under the Oliy Majlis.
In an interview with Sevimli TV, Khosanov commented on concerns arising from reports that the new U.S. administration has decided to "freeze" foreign aid, potentially affecting the implementation of numerous international projects.
Previously, the United States provided funding for foreign initiatives through various agencies, including the State Department, USAID, the Pentagon, and the Department of Agriculture.
“As in the past, now, and in the future, we are ready to provide comprehensive support, ensuring all necessary conditions for the continuation of projects. Moreover, if challenges arise with foreign grants in 2025, we will develop additional support mechanisms. In this regard, I encourage all NGOs to actively participate in competitions for state grants and public procurement programs organized by our foundation,” Khosanov stated.
According to him, the foundation’s annual budget is approximately $100 million, with around 70% allocated to funding the mahalla governance system.
Meanwhile, on the first day of his second presidential term, Donald Trump signed an executive order suspending foreign aid for 90 days and calling for a review of its distribution principles. The Trump administration also temporarily froze USAID operations, citing inefficiency in fund allocation.
