Uzbekistan’s foreign trade turnover reaches US$17.3 billion

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In January–March 2025, Uzbekistan’s foreign trade turnover (FTT) amounted to US$17.3 billion, an increase of US$1.37 billion or 8.6% compared to the same period in 2024, according to the National Statistics Committee.

Of the total FTT, exports reached US$8.1 billion (a 24.4% increase compared to January–March 2024), while imports totaled US$9.19 billion (a 2.3% decrease).

As a result, the foreign trade balance showed a negative value of -US$1.08 billion.

Uzbekistan conducts trade with 173 countries worldwide.

The largest share of foreign trade turnover was with China (17.5%), followed by Russia (14.9%), Kazakhstan (5.9%), Türkiye (3.5%), and the Republic of Korea (2.4%).

Goods accounted for 78.6% of the export structure, including industrial goods (11.1%), food products and live animals (5.8%), chemical products and related items (5.2%), and various manufactured goods (3.5%).

The main export partners for goods and services during the first quarter of 2025 were Russia (10.9%), China (5.6%), Afghanistan (3.9%), Kazakhstan (3.8%), Türkiye (3.1%), France (2.7%), the UAE (1.8%), Tajikistan (1.3%), the Kyrgyz Republic (1.2%), and Pakistan (1.1%). Together, these countries accounted for 35.4% of total exports.

Between January and March 2025, 282,500 tons of fruits and vegetables were exported, which is a decrease of 27.6% or 68,500 tons compared to the same period in 2024.

The export value of fruits and vegetables during the period totaled US$282.6 million, reflecting a 28.8% increase compared to the same timeframe in 2024. This category accounted for 3.5% of total exports.

In the same period, textile exports amounted to US$629.3 million, representing 7.8% of the total and a 19.1% decrease year-on-year. The majority of textile exports consisted of finished textile products (45.0%) and yarn (35.0%).

Service exports in January–March 2025 totaled US$1.73 billion, or 21.4% of total exports, marking a 37.9% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Transport services made up 40.5% of this total, followed by travel (tourism) at 43.7%, telecommunications, computer and information services at 8.4%, and other business services at 4.5%. The largest portion of other services (2.9%) included insurance and pension services (1.0%) and financial services (0.8%).

Imports during the period amounted to US$9.19 billion, a 2.3% decrease from January–March 2024. The main components of imports were machinery and transport equipment (35.1%), industrial goods (16.2%), and chemical products and similar items (13.1%).

An analysis of import dynamics showed that the volume of goods imported in January–March 2025 fell by US$460.1 million compared to the same period in 2024, amounting to US$8.22 billion. Imports of services reached US$967.3 million.

Overall, in January–March 2025, Uzbekistan imported goods and services from 151 countries. More than two-thirds of imports came from major trading partners such as China (27.9%), Russia (18.4%), Kazakhstan (7.8%), the Republic of Korea (4.4%), Türkiye (3.9%), Germany (3.4%), and India (2.7%).

The import of services in January–March 2025 totaled US$967.3 million, or 10.5% of the total import volume, and grew by 32.9% compared to the same period in 2024.

The main components of imported services included travel (tourism) at 58.3%, transport services at 19.1%, telecommunications, computer and information services at 8.5%, and other business services at 4.8%.
