Uzbekistan’s export freight volume grows, import stabilizes
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — According to data from the ATI.SU Freight Exchange, the demand for export freight services from Uzbekistan increased by 48% in 2024, with prices rising by 6%.
Notably, there was significant growth in the second half of the year: +71% in the third quarter and +110% in the fourth. The primary export destination was Russia (+56%), with significant growth also observed in freight to Belarus (+85%) and Kazakhstan (+67%).
Meanwhile, the volume of import freight to Uzbekistan remained stable compared to 2023, despite a 10% decrease in demand for freight from Russia. A slight decline in imports (-4%) was offset by increased demand for transportation from Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan, as well as a 23% boost in the fourth quarter.
Domestic transportation within Uzbekistan also saw a 66% increase, driven by both market factors and the development of the ATI.SU platform in the country.
According to Farid Vakhidov, Director of the ATI.SU Representative Office in Uzbekistan, the growth in Uzbekistan’s export freight is linked to new sanctions against Russia, particularly the June restrictions imposed by the United States. These measures complicated imports into Russia from several countries, including China, and led to the search for alternative suppliers, including those in Uzbekistan. This trend encompasses both transit freight and the actual growth in exports of Uzbek goods.
