Uzbekistan’s Energy Ministry: Novo-Angren TPP Complies with Emission Standards in H1 2025
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Novo-Angren Thermal Power Plant (TPP) did not exceed the established limits for atmospheric pollutant emissions in the first half of 2025, according to confirmation from the Main Department of Ecology of the Tashkent region, the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan reported.
The ministry noted that in the past, the efficiency of the plant’s dust and gas treatment systems was insufficient. In line with Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 202 of 12 April 2021, compensation measures were calculated and recommendations were provided to address these shortcomings.
The Novo-Angren TPP supplies electricity to the eastern districts of the Tashkent region and the Fergana Valley, generating around 5 billion kWh of electricity annually — enough to power about 2 million households.
Emission calculations at the plant were carried out in accordance with environmental norms and permitted quotas, with actual figures for the first half of 2025 remaining within acceptable limits.
“The station has undergone major and current repairs of electrostatic precipitators, increasing their efficiency from 84% to 96%. Further repairs of boiler units and the installation of modern filters are planned, which will significantly reduce emissions,” the ministry said.
Additionally, a comprehensive action plan to improve emission control efficiency through 2028 has been developed and approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
All measures will be implemented under a “road map” agreed with the Main Department of Ecology of the Tashkent region.
