Uzbekistan’s Electricity Generation Climbs 8% to 8.18 Billion kWh in January
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan’s total electricity generation reached 8,182.1 million kWh in January 2026, marking an 8.0% increase over the 7,573.2 million kWh produced during the same period in 2025, according to the National Statistics Committee.
The data reveals a significant shift in the country's energy production landscape. Large-scale power enterprises saw a slight contraction in output, falling to 5,880.8 million kWh from 6,003.3 million kWh in January 2025. Conversely, the small business and private enterprise sector demonstrated a dramatic surge, increasing its contribution to 2,301.3 million kWh—up from 1,569.9 million kWh a year earlier.
In contrast to the growth in electricity, the thermal energy sector experienced a downturn. During January 2026, large enterprises generated 2,471.7 thousand Gcal of heat energy, representing only 89.7% of the volume produced in January 2025, when output reached 2,754.5 thousand Gcal.
This divergence suggests a growing reliance on decentralized electricity generation and potentially milder winter conditions or efficiency improvements impacting the demand for centralized heating services.
