Uzbekistan’s Economy Grew by 7.7% in 2025
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan’s economy demonstrated accelerated growth in 2025, reaching the highest levels seen in recent years, according to data from the National Statistics Committee.
From January to December 2025, the country’s gross domestic product increased by 7.7%, which is one percentage point higher than the 6.7% growth recorded in 2024. This marks the strongest economic performance since 2021, the period of recovery following the COVID-19 pandemic.
Amid rising economic activity, inflation slowed from 9.8% to 7.3%. At the same time, the rate of real growth in household incomes declined from 11.7% in 2024 to 9.2% in 2025.
The permanent population of the country grew by nearly 700,000 people, surpassing 38 million for the first time. As of January 1, 2026, Uzbekistan’s population exceeded 38.23 million.
Industrial production continued moderate growth, with the physical volume index rising from 6.5% to 6.8%. Significant acceleration was recorded in the construction sector, where the volume of work increased by 14.2% compared to 10% a year earlier. Positive growth was also observed in agriculture, forestry, and fisheries, which expanded by 4.4%, in retail services, which grew by 14.7%, and in foreign trade turnover, which rose 20.7%, with exports up 24% and imports up 18.5%.
However, some indicators showed slower growth compared to the previous year. Freight turnover increased by 1.9%, passenger turnover by 5.8%, and retail trade turnover by 11.2%.
In his annual address to the Oliy Majlis and the people of Uzbekistan at the end of December, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reported that in 2025 the country’s GDP exceeded $145 billion for the first time, while foreign trade turnover reached $80 billion. Exports increased by 23% to $33.4 billion.
