Uzbekistan’s Consulate in Istanbul Reports Death of Uzbek Citizen

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Consulate General of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Istanbul confirmed the death of an Uzbek citizen in the Şişli district and stated that it is keeping the investigation under constant supervision.

According to the diplomatic mission, the incident came to light on 24 January 2026, around 19:40, when a local resident collecting items from trash discovered a wrapped body in a garbage container and alerted law enforcement. During the initial examination, it was noted that the victim’s head was missing.

Joint investigative measures conducted by the Consulate General in coordination with local authorities, the forensic examination center, and the prosecutor’s office confirmed the identity of the deceased as Durdona Hakimova, a citizen of Uzbekistan.

Two Uzbek citizens have been detained in connection with the case. According to the consulate, they were arrested while attempting to leave Turkey for Georgia by air.

The consulate has established contact with the victim’s relatives and is providing the necessary consular and legal support. The consulate emphasized that the investigation remains under special oversight and that cooperation with Turkish authorities continues.

Further information on the case will be released exclusively through official channels, the consulate noted.

The Consulate General of the Republic of Uzbekistan in Istanbul expressed its deepest condolences to the family and relatives of the deceased.
