Uzbekistan’s Construction Sector Expands 9.2% in January 2026

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan’s construction sector maintained its upward trajectory at the start of the year, with the total volume of work performed reaching 13.02 trillion soums in January 2026. This represents a 9.2% increase compared to the same period in 2025, according to the National Statistics Committee.

The sector's growth was primarily driven by the construction of buildings and structures, which accounted for 72.2% of the total output. While this core segment grew by 4.9%, civil engineering projects—including infrastructure and public works—saw a dramatic surge of 35.6%, representing 17.5% of the market. Specialized construction activities rounded out the industry with a 10.3% share, up 4.3% year-on-year.

The organizational structure of the industry remains diverse. Large construction firms completed works worth 3 trillion soums (a 23.1% share), growing 8% over the previous year. Small enterprises and micro-firms proved even more dynamic, handling 46% of the total volume with 5.99 trillion soums in work—an 11.3% increase. The informal sector also played a significant role, contributing 30.9% of the total volume at 4.02 trillion soums.

On a regional level, several areas witnessed extraordinary growth among large-scale construction organizations. The Jizzakh region recorded a nearly tenfold increase (940.4%) compared to January 2025, followed by the Republic of Karakalpakstan (703.9%) and the Syrdarya region (616%).

These figures underscore a broad-based expansion in Uzbekistan’s built environment, fueled by both large-scale regional development projects and the steady activity of small and medium-sized enterprises.
