Uzbekistan’s Antimonopoly Committee investigates price manipulations by Gurlan Global Teks
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan’s Committee for Competition Development and Consumer Protection has launched an investigation into Gurlan Global Teks, a cotton cluster suspected of price manipulation.
The regional office of the committee in Khorezm region identified 54 instances where the company sold cotton fiber, linters, cottonseed oil, and husk through direct contracts between 2023 and August 2024. The total value of these transactions amounted to 55.9 billion soums.
In seven cases, products were sold at prices above the average exchange rate, allowing the company to earn an additional 173 million soums. Meanwhile, 45 transactions involving 3,400 tons of cotton fiber and linters were conducted below exchange prices, amounting to 5.5 billion soums in losses on a total product value of 53.5 billion soums.
Following the investigation, a special commission initiated a case against Gurlan Global Teks for violating the Law on Competition, accusing the company of selling highly liquid products outside the exchange, which has been prohibited since 2020.
As a result, enforcement measures were taken against the company, and it was ordered to cease the identified violations and prevent future recurrences.
